Pitfall trap comparison data for Haringhuizen et al. (in prep., 2025)

This dataset contains the pitfall trapping data used in Haringhuizen et al. (in prep., 2025), a controlled field experiment comparing capture efficiency between pitfall trap designs. The study evaluates differences in total arthropod catches, carabid catches, and the effect of trap colour and bycatch-prevention methods. Data were collected using pitfall traps installed in a radomised complete block design. All samples were processed using a standardised workflow, and counts represent the total number of individuals per trap per sampling event. Taxonomic resolution varies among groups: Carabidae were identified to species level, while non-carabid taxa were aggregated to order or class level. The files in this repository consist of the raw datafiles created by the first author, including an overview and readme file explaining the dataset and its metadata, as well as a derived file used for the statistical analyses, which includes only the groups used for modelling.
