Electronic and spin properties of the chiral topological semimetal YPt2B

Chirality is attracting growing interest in condensed matter physics, as it establishes unconventional magnetic ordering in skyrmions and helimagnets, as well as unique spin textures in reciprocal space. The distinct symmetry combinations exclusive to chiral crystals are at the core of a new chapter in topological materials, where novel Weyl fermions and surface Fermi arcs emerge in the band structure of chiral semimetals. This proposal aims at investigating the electronic and spin properties of a newly synthesized chiral semimetal, YPt₂B. We will leverage the unparalleled experimental capabilities of the LOREA ARPES setup, equipped with a state-of-the-art electron analyzer with efficient spin detection, and a high-photon-flux source with a small spot size, which is crucial for studying non-layered compounds. The feasibility of this project is supported by preliminary results obtained at LOREA.
