Antibiotic-induced shifts in intestinal microbiota by 16S rRNA sequencing. Bacteria

The goal of this study was to determine alterations in the intestinal microbial composition in response to systemic ceftriaxone administration in mice. We performed 16S rRNA sequencing with DNA extracted from the feces, intestinal tissues and extra-intestinal organs to determine the impact of ceftriaxone treatment on the microbial composition and diversity in the intestinal lumen and systemic dissemination in mice. This study allows the investigation of commensal populations that proliferate in the intestinal tract along with enterococci in response to ceftriaxone challenge that subsequently facilitate their dissemination.
