印度洋综合科学考察自2010年开始，由中科院南海海洋研究所负责实施，调查船为“实验1”号科考船，调查区域范围包括80E-111E，6S-10N。通过系列航次考察，主要开展海洋水文观测、海流与气象观测、上层海洋光学参数测量、海洋生物与生态调查、海洋沉积物采集等工作，涉及海洋生物、海洋物理、海洋化学及海洋地质学等学科，可了解季风爆发过程中的东印度洋海洋层化、SST、季风内震荡等过程及其关系。
