The dataset for the distribution and driving factors of high-skilled talents and their impacts on regional innovation (2000–2020) covers data on high-skilled talent distribution, patent counts, standard deviational ellipses, and hotspot-coldspot analysis for prefecture-level and above cities in China between 2000 and 2020. The MGWPR model is employed to analyze the spatial non-stationary characteristics of high-skilled talent distribution and the effects of such talents on regional innovation.
