We propose an operando XRS experiment on the Li-rich Li2MnO3 material for next-generation lithium-ion batteries. The O K-edge information gained by this experiment is crucial to understand partially irreversible structural changes and redox processes during the first cycle, which ultimately yield to voltage fading. In combination with previous experiments on the isostructural O3-Na1Li1/3Mn2/3O2 this will unify the understanding of oxygen-redox. This will allow to develop the next-generation of Li-rich materials, avoiding the fundamental issues observed in Li2MnO3.
