Microbial structure and hydrocarbon degradation potential of three different anthropized freshwater sediments from Rio de La Plata estuary, Argentina

The goal of this project is to study and compare how the presence of hydrocarbons influences the microbial community structure and its potential ability to degrade hydrocarbon in three anthropized freshwater sediments from Rio de La Plata estuary, Argentina. The microbial community structure is thoroughly linked with environmental geophysicochemical conditions. Therefore, relating different sources of contamination with microbial community dynamics can contribute to a better understanding of freshwater ecology. In turn, this will allow to design sustainable management strategies for the treatment of anthropized freshwater sediments.
