Proteome database of Staphylococcus aureus Newman strain

<i>Staphylococcus aureus</i> is a Gram-positive bacterium that inhabits the skin of human body. However, it is also an opportunistic pathogen when displaced from its natural habitat. This work provides foundational information about the proteome of <i>S. aureus</i> Newman strain by parsing its annotated proteome file downloaded from UniProt. Comprising protein name and amino acid sequence augmented with calculated results of number of residues, molecular weight and nucleotide sequence of each protein in the bacterium’s proteome, the resource should find use in a variety of basic and applied biology fields. One possibility is in informing functional genomics research into the molecular underpinnings that afford transition between commensal and pathogenic state in the bacterium from the perspective of metabolic dysfunction.
