Rice (Oryza sativa L) favors ammonium as its major nitrogen source in paddy field, though the molecular mechanisms underlying its tolerance towards ammonium remain largely unknown. We identified a rice mutant, root hypersensitive to ammonium nitrogen (rohan) showing root hyper-sensitivity to ammonium. In order to unveil the mechanism underlying ROHAN-mediated root tolerance to ammonium, we performed RNA-seq analysis of root meristems of rohan mutants and the wild-type (9522) grown in the media supplied with or without 2.5mM ammonium.
