Acanthopagrus latus is native to the Indo-West Pacific region. It also inhabits waters from the East China Sea to South China Sea, ranking among the common nearshore fish species. This species holds both ecological value and substantial aquaculture potential, and serves as an ideal model for studying the euryhaline evolutionary mechanisms of sparid fishes. The first telomere-to-telomere (T2T) chromosome-scale genome assembly of A. latus was generated using a combination of PacBio HiFi, Nanopore ONT ultra-long reads and Hi-C sequencing technologies.This new genome assembly provides a valuable reference for further research into the evolutionary mechanisms of osmoregulation in sparid fishes and euryhalinity in teleosts, while also offering high-quality genomic resources to address various challenges in the aquaculture of A. latus.
