Topics and teaching techniques used in TikTok English language teaching content

The aims of this study were to explore the English teaching content from Thai content creators on Tik Tok in order to investigate the topics which Thai English teaching content creators teach on TikTok as well as their teaching methodology. The data of the study were TikTok videos about teaching English language for Thai EFL learners produced by Thai content creators who had more than 500,000 followers. The results of the study showed that, out of 107 videos, vocabulary (57) is the most frequently found teaching topic from videos produced by Thai English teaching content creators on the TikTok application, followed by conversation (36), grammar (14), and pronunciation (1). In addition, the results revealed that the most frequently used teaching techniques are giving definitions of words, phrases, or sentences in Thai, which are accompanied by pronunciation and examples in some videos. Guessing words from definitions or visual clues were also found and there were songs created to help with vocabulary recall. Role-plays were used to model conversation. Finally, grammar test item explanation was also found. The results from this study does not only give an insight into the topics and technique which was used by Thai content creators on Tik Tok but also reflect the perception of Thai language learners towards English language learning.
