The design protocol data was analyzed based on the theory that object and spatial imagery are the two visual components of mental representation (Mental Imagery) in design. Since architectural design is mostly visual the black box of design thinking was demystified using the two Mental Imagery components i.e. Object Imagery and Spatial Imagery. This provided a neuroscientific understanding of the design process not explored before. The design protocol data was collected through video sessions with the subject during COVID-19 times. The design protocol explored the difference in activation of Object imagery and Spatial Imagery in two design mediums; Sketching and SketchUp. The design problems were isomorphic in nature and the design setting was kept similar for both the design mediums. The transcription of the design protocol is provided so that it can be utilized to analyze the differences in design medium with other design coding techniques.

设计协议数据基于对象和空间意象构成设计思维(心理意象)中两种视觉成分的理论进行分析。鉴于建筑设计主要依赖视觉,设计思维的‘黑箱’通过运用两种心理意象成分——即对象意象和空间意象得以揭开神秘面纱。这一研究为设计过程提供了前所未有的神经科学理解。设计协议数据是在COVID-19疫情期间通过与受试者的视频会议收集的。设计协议探讨了在两种设计媒介——素描和SketchUp中,对象意象与空间意象激活差异。设计问题在本质上具有同构性,且设计环境在两种设计媒介中保持一致。设计协议的转录被提供,以便能够利用它来分析设计媒介与其他设计编码技术的差异。
