Single unit neural activity was recorded from deep layers of rat motor cortex during spontaneous free body movement (no task). Simultaneous with the neural recordings, body movement data was acquired by tracking the 3D coordinates of 8 beads attached to the rat's back as it moved about.<br>Some of the recordings were done with pharmacologically altered inhibitory neural interactions (GABA receptor agonists or antagonists). These manipulations were done locally in motor cortex or systemically.
