In English: The present file contains information on the project 'Study of the circulation and bathymetry of the surroundings of the circumpolar current', carried out on board of the Spanish Oceanographic vessel Hesperides. During the campaign in situ data (CTD, ADCP, thermosalinograph, gravimeter, echo sounder, XBT) were recorded. Three CTD and XBT soundings profiles were observed across Brandsfield sea, between the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctica peninsula, together with continuous surface thermohaline, batimetry, ADCP and gravity records. NOAA satellite infrared images were also recorded during the Drake Passage and Brandsfield sea navigation. All these data are also correlated with Topex-Poseidon and ERS-2 records. During the campaign the ship was following a direct course between Cape of Horns and Boyd Strait performing XBT, model T5 and T7, soundings down to 1700 m, every 0.5 degrees of latitude. In latitudes 59 degrees S and 62 degrees S, CTD soundings were performed down to 2700 m, recording fluorometry, oxygen, temperature and salinity. In the Brandsfield Sea,CTD soundings were performed at the following points: 62.96 deg. S and 61.38 deg. W: 63.08 deg. S and 61.55 deg. W; 63.23 deg. S and 61.49 deg. W; 63.73 deg. S and 61.33 deg W; 63.56 deg. S and 63.37 deg. W; 63.41 deg. S and 61.45 deg. W; 63.02 deg. S and 60.14 deg. W; 63.34S deg and 59.87 deg. W; 63.16 deg. S and 59.98 deg. W; 62.84 deg. S and 60.29 deg. W. To interpolate data between the CTD soundings were also performed XBT soundings. Along the navigation were maintained continuously records of ADCP, surface thermo haline, gravimeter, batimetry, atmospheric parameters (temperature, pressure, wind direction and intensity, humidity). PHASE 1: USHUAIA-LIVINGSTON NAVIGATION Permanent ADCP measurements and CTD sounding (salinity, temperature, fluorescency depth, oxygen, turbidity), thermosalinometer and XBT among the points. NOAA satellite images were taken, mainly in IR channels and a continuous record of gravimeter and meteorology data was maintained. PHASE 2: BRANSFIELD STRAIT CTD and XBT soundings in points above related, between south of Deception Island and Cierva Bay in the Antarctica peninsula, and from Cierva Bay towards BAE Juan Carlos I in Livingston Island. During the profiles ADCP, atmospheric parameters, thermosalinograph, gravimeter and batimetry was continuously recorded. During this phase, infrared channels of NOAA satellites were recorded. PHASE 3: STATIONS-USHUAIA. 01MAR 2002-03 MAR 2002 During this phase, the ship was following a direct course from Boyd Strait, in the South Shetland Islands, towards Ushuaia, between Boyd Strait, in South Shetland Islands, and the entrance of Beagle Channel. During the navigation were continuously recorded batimetry, gravimeter, thermosalinograph, atmospheric parameters performing XBT soundings. During the phase NOAA satellite infra red channels were recorded.
