Coastal Storm Surge Detention in NH Wetlands (Derived from NWI Plus)

This dataset models the potential of New Hampshire wetlands to provide coastal storm surge detention, a critical ecosystem service for mitigating the impacts of coastal flooding and storm events. Derived from the National Wetlands Inventory Plus (NWI Plus) framework, the data layer evaluates wetland functions based on landscape position, water flow path, wetland type, and hydrologic connectivity. Wetlands with high storm surge detention potential can help buffer coastal communities, protect infrastructure, and reduce the severity of flooding from nor’easters, hurricanes, and other storm events. The dataset is intended for use in hazard mitigation planning, climate adaptation, resilience building, and natural resource management.
