Climate warming is altering biodiversity worldwide, yet changes in species richness alone may not capture the ecological reorganization occurring within biological communities. Here, we reveal hidden dimensions of microbial biodiversity change by integrating a nine-year time series from a Tibetan proglacial lake with genome-resolved metagenomics and a tri-polar survey of 91 glacial lakes across Antarctica, the Arctic and the Tibetan Plateau.
