Comparative profiling of the oropharyngeal microbiome in healthy and FMD-affected bovine using 16S rRNA sequencing

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a highly contagious viral disease of cloven-hoofed animals that causes significant economic losses to the livestock sector. Oropharyngeal fluid samples were collected from FMD-positive and FMD-negative (apparently healthy) animals, and bacterial community profiles were generated using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing. The study provides insight into the differences in microbial diversity and taxonomic composition associated with FMD virus (FMDV) infection.
