Staphylococcal phage infecting Staphylococcus pseudintermedius. Phietavirus

S. pseudintermedius (SP) is a major cause of dog canine pyoderm. The emergence of antibiotic-resistant SP has become a major so far. Bacteriophage infecting SP is possibly used as antimicrobial agent to eradicate antibiotic-resistant SP. In this study, we screen phages which could infect SP. Notably, some phages are even stronger than staphylococcal Myoviridae phages that we have in our collection. Genome analysis was conducted to evaluate the feature of the newly isolated phages including assessment of their safety to be used for phage therapy, e.g, absent of virulence gene and antibiotic resistance gene.
