Researching, collecting, documenting, archiving, transcribing, indexing and utilizing the oral histories of Greek refugees (1914 - 2000) by the Historical Archive of Greek Refugees, Municipality of Kalamaria.

The aim of the research is to record and process (transcribe and index) oral testimonies from various groups of refugee Hellenism throughout the 20th century and regarding as many geographical areas of origin and settlement as possible. The majority of the testimonies (1,200) concern the refugees of the Asia Minor Catastrophe and Population Exchange, but as described in detail in "SECTION B1: Collection codes" in the material of the Collection of Oral Testimonies of IAPE, 8 more topics are included. The primary purpose of collecting the material is to preserve the personal experiences and the lived memories of Greek refugees, for issues of daily life (work, education, customs, clothing, nutrition, architecture, administration, relations with ethno-religious groups, environment, etc.), and for particularly important events (exiles, persecutions, violence, disasters, refugees), both at the places of origin and at the places of establishment. Also, the purpose is to serve the research audience at IAPE, through the data themselves (interviews) and their metadata (transcripts, indexing, accompanying material, etc.). In this context, the aim is the gradual introduction of data and transmitted in the Electronic Database of IAPE, so that the access of researchers to the material is possible and accessible online. An additional purpose is extroversion, the utilization of the Collection of Oral Testimonies, by the Historical Archive of Refugee Hellenism itself and by researchers, in educational programs, exhibitions, publications, city guides, museum events, etc.
