Beyond Stigma: Perceptions of Lung Cancer in Malaysia by Patients, Professionals and the Public

Lung cancer remains a significant health challenge in Malaysia, with high incidence and mortality rates. Beyond the physical burden, lung cancer patients often face complex psychosocial challenges rooted in the sociocultural landscape surrounding the disease. Through three qualitative studies, this multi-phased research project sought to explore the multifaceted nature of lung cancer stigma within Malaysia’s broader sociocultural landscape from the attitudes and perspectives of the general public, the lived experiences of lung cancer patients, and the perceptions of healthcare providers.
