Viral metagenomic analysis of cattle with BPS-like symptoms

In January 2024, Bovine papular stomatitis(BPS)-like symptoms such as reddish, raised or ulcerative lesions on the lips, muzzle and gums and in the mouth were observed on 2 cow farms originated from Hebei province in China. These animals were as early as 5-day old disease developed. The presence of BPSV genome was confirmed via viral metagenomics sequencing analysis of swabs of both nasopharyngeal and ulcer, as well as the serum collected from these animals with severe signs of infection.
