Luz y Taquígrafos: Parliamentary Debates in the Second Spanish Republic, 1931–1945

This dataset contains structured data extracted from the Diarios de Sesiones (Official Parliamentary Records) of the Spanish Second Republic, covering all three legislative periods of the republican Cortes on Spanish soil — the Constituent Cortes (1931–1933), the Second Legislature (1933–1935), and the Popular Front Legislature (1936) — as well as the sessions of the Republican Cortes in exile (1939–). The source documents were digitized from the original printed volumes and processed through optical character recognition (OCR) followed by automated text correction. The dataset records parliamentary speeches and interventions, capturing individual floor contributions by named deputies across all plenary sessions. Each intervention is linked to a reference roster of deputies that includes party affiliation, electoral constituency, ideological orientation, and political family (nationalists, conservatives, republicans, socialists, communists, and others), enabling systematic analysis of parliamentary participation across the full spectrum of the Republic's political landscape.
