The combined treatment with isobutylmethylxanthine, insulin and dexamethasone (MIX treatment) is widely used as a standard method to induced adipocyte differentiation in mouse 3T3-L1 cells. Our recent investigated found that a single treatment with RU486 (mifepristone), a glucocorticoid receptor antagonist, induced adipocyte differentiation in mouse 3T3-L1 cells. The morphological observation of smaller droplets with RU486 treatment compared to those seen with MIX treatment suggested the state of differentiation by RU486 is closer to normal adipocytes. Therefore, the differences in the profile of transcriptome between RU486-induced adipocytes and those induced by MIX treatment (positive control) were investigated with DNA microarray. The deposited DNA microarray data include those from RU486-induced adipocytes, MIX treatment-induced adipocyte and original 3T3-L1 cells before differentiation (negative control) in 3 sets for each condition.
