Predator free Victorian Volcanic Plains habitat for the Eastern Barred Bandicoot

The project will create a 900 hectares predator free ecosystem in the Victorian Volcanic Plains to support the re-establishment of an Eastern Barred Bandicoot population. The project builds on the successful model at the Mount Rothwell Biodiversity Interpretation Centre (which co-owns the ‘Tiverton’ property) and has established a population of 1150 Eastern Barred Bandicoot individuals. The installation of a predator proof fence will be supported by habitat enhancement works such as weed & biomass management, seed collection & propagation and the property includes a number of Seasonal Herbaceous Wetlands of the Temperate Lowland Plains and extensive Natural Temperate Grassland of the Victorian Volcanic Plains, the condition and function of which will be substantially improved.
