Acanthus ilicifolius(scientific name: Acanthus ilicifolius L.), also known as sea holly, holly mangrove, or holly-leaved acanthus, are traditionally used in Indian and Chinese medicine.Acanthus ilicifolius is an erect shrub of the genus Leucaena in the family of Siraceae, up to 2 meters tall. The stems are stout, up to 9 mm in diameter, terete, branched distally, and glabrous. Stipules are spine-like, leaf blade oblong to oblong-lanceolate, apex acute, base cuneate, margin 4-5-pinnately lobed, subleathery, both surfaces glabrous. Spikes terminal; bracts opposite, corolla white. Capsule ellipsoid, 2.5-3 cm long, with 4 seeds. Seeds flattened, round-reniform, yellowish.Acanthus ilicifolius in China is distributed in Hainan, Guangdong, and Fujian, China. It is found on the coast of southern China and in coastal areas where tides can reach it.The roots of Acanthus ilicifolius can be used as medicine, which has the function of cooling the blood and clearing heat, dispersing phlegm accumulation, detoxifying and relieving pain. Acanthus ilicifolius is one of the important components of mangrove forests. It is an excellent mangrove plant. We performed whole-genome sequencing of Acanthus ilicifolius using high-throughput sequencing technology and assembly with high-throughput, short-read technologies
