This study characterized the eukaryotic microbial communities in nine hypersaline samples of salt lake HuaMa, Shaanxi, China by 454-pyrosequencing of the nuclear ribosomal ITS genes and investigated effects of geochemical parameters on microbial community structure. HuaMa is an alkali-carbonate type endorheic hypersaline lake (altitude: 1301 m, N: 37.40'478, E: 107.30'724) located in the driest and coldest place in Northern Shaanxi, China. The annual average rainfall and annual average evaporation at the salt lake region are 316.9 mm and 2490 mm, respectively. The annual average temperature is 7.9 C. Annual temperatures range from 37.7? in summer to -32? in winter.
