BLUE_DB — Basic Local Units Election Database

BLUE_DB is a Europe-wide dataset of municipality-level results of national parliamentary and European Parliament (EP) elections. BLUE_DB covers 340 elections (206 national and 134 European Parliament) held in 31 European countries between 2001 and 2026, providing results for 151,956 local administrative units and 3,942 parties, coalitions, lists, and individual candidates. BLUE_DB's spatial typology is based on Eurostat's Local Administrative Units (LAUs), extended to cover recently created municipalities, Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs), postal vote, voting stations abroad, and the special electoral districts used in the four countries without LAU-level results (Ireland, Iceland, Malta, Slovenia). This allows for seamless integration with Eurostat's regional and local databases. All political parties in BLUE_DB are associated with their Party Facts identifiers (where available) and further classified by European party, European Parliament political group, and broader political family. The dataset was constructed by carefully collecting, harmonizing, and merging national datasets from official sources.
