The ecological success of the monophasic variant of Salmonella Typhimurium: a comparative genomic study

Monophasic variant of Salmonella Typhimurium, S. 1,4,[5],12:i:- (MVST), has been displaying a high rate of isolation in humans over the last decades and is enlisted among the emerging foodborne pathogens worldwide. Since unique genotypes could confer clones selective advantages in terms of epidemiologic success, specific molecular features, such as resistances to antimicrobials and heavy metals and persistence, were investigated as key factors.
