A country-scale sampling of mine tailings from 39 mine sites across China was conducted in July and August 2018, generating a total of 115 metagenomes which have been deposited in the NCBI BioProject database under the accession number PRJNA1085405. The metagenomic reads were assembled into contigs and viruses were annotated by VirSorter2 (v2.2.3) with a minimum length of 10 kb. High-quality and complete viral sequences examined by CheckV software was retained, leading to 588 viral contigs here.
