VPRS 17019 Corporate Services Correspondence Files, Annual Single Number System

The Corporate Services Correspondence Files series is a continuation of the central hardcopy filing system for City of Melbourne correspondence that was used within the Town Clerk Files VPRS 3181 and 3183. Files contain registered correspondence, both incoming and outgoing, and often include plans, reports, images and other related documents.Correspondence was allocated a file number according to the year in which it was first received and all subsequent correspondence relating to that matter was placed on the same file in chronological order. Often correspondence on a particular subject spanned multiple years.By 1990, an electronic Records Management System was introduced which decentralised the filing for all correspondence.
