This bacterium suppresses growth of a broad range of bacterial and fungal pathogens. It was used in the probiotic Bacterin-SL for a peroral administration for prophylaxis of gastro-intestinal diseases in newborn calves. The probiotic was developed in the Institute of Microbiology and Virology, Kiev, Ukraine by Dr. Reznik S.R and Prof. Smirnov V.V. Other names of this strain were Bacillus subtilis strain 3 and Bacillus subtilis VKPM 2335.
