资源简介:
Forty-four flotation samples from a Late Woodlands site located in Pike County, Illinois were submitted to the Fiske Center for Archaeological Research for macrobotanical analysis. Charred wood, nutshells, and charred chenopodium (Goosefoot) seeds formed the majority of the botanical remains recovered. Bowes and Trigg note the excellent fuel woods recovered from the site, as well as the ubiquity and importance of walnuts, hickory nuts, and hazelnuts in Native diets. The large number of goosefoot seeds recovered may also indicate past cultivation of this plant as a food crop.
