The bean leaf beetle, Cerotoma trifurcata and the bconvergent lady beetle, Hippodamia convergens Raw sequence reads

The interactions between host plants and their phytophagous insects are intrinsically complex and subject to remarkable co-evolution, where both have adapted strategies to avoid each other's defense systems. In this study, used Illumina MiSeq RNA sequencing to search for effectors that may 'modulate' beetle feeding on host plants. To do this, we compared the putative secreted proteins between a highly efficient beetle vector (bean leaf beetle, Cerotoma trifurcata) and a beetle non-vector (convergent lady beetle, Hippodamia convergens).
