Data underlying a publication within the Family-Friendly City project. We conducted a qualitative study using a multi-method and multi-actor design to unravel why activity spaces with well-intended design may be underused by children aged 11-13 years. We collected in-depth qualitative data through informal conversations and a drawing workshop with nine parents, and through child-completed booklets and a neighborhood walk with 39 children. We share the materials used in our study (see files 1.1.1 through 1.3.2), anonymized data collected from parents (see files of sticker placement on maps, drawn cognitive maps, group drawing titled 2.1.1 through 2.3.1), and pseudonimized and anonymized data collected from children (see files of sticker placement on maps, children's responses from the booklet, children's and observers' responses during neighborhood walk, a visual representation of the evaluated locations, and the photos taken during the neighborhood walk titled 3.1 through 3.5).
