This research delivers into the nuclear manufacturing of Very-High-Temperature Gas Reactors (VHTGRs) using Nickel-based superalloy 617 (IN617) for heat exchangers. Specifically, it explores the application of electron beam welding for IN617, a material known for its resistance to corrosion, oxidation, and high creep properties. The study aims to measure residual stress levels, validate weld models, and correlate them with creep properties. The project has practical implications for welding choices in VHTGR components, i.e. Intermediate Heat Exchangers IHX.
