This article reviews the development of mathematical modeling theories for atmospheric samplers based on polymer materials as sorbent in the quantitative collection of semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs). It presents three core modelling theory for air sampling: the front chromatography theory for active air sampler (AAS), the dual-film theory for passive air sampler (PAS), and the dynamic theory for PAS. Additionally, it looks ahead to future research trends and theoretical expansion directions related to these technologies.
