These are 16S small subunit rRNA (bacterial and archaeal) and 28S large subunit rRNA (fungal) gene sequences to assess changes in microbial diversity between Alaskan beaver ponds and tundra lakes and streams. Beavers are moving into Northern Arctic regions, past previously-known habitat lines, and our goal was to assess the differential impacts they will have on ecosystem microbiology. Microbial communities of sediments underlying beaver ponds were sequenced to be compared to those of tundra lakes and streams, in a catchment flowing into Toolik Lake, AK.
