Long-term monitoring of the cycles and success of breeding activity and habitat of shorebirds on Akimiski Island, Nunavut

A study of semipalmated plovers was initiated in 2002 and is ongoing. Nesting ecology studies include ground searches for nests and monitoring of nests. We record location, nest timing, nest success, habitat characterization at multiple scales, foraging habitats and food supplies. We also band adults and young and follow histories of return, pair membership, etc. of these birds. All data are spatially referenced. ** Data from the IPY years 2007-2009 are available for download.
