A F2 mapping population was produced by selfing a single F1 from the Vitis riparia (USDA PI 588289) x Vitis hybrid 'Seyval' (Seyve Villard 5-276). 'Seyval' is a hybrid of Vitis vinifera and wild grape species native to the south-central United States. Earlier work had shown that the Vitis riparia growth cessation trait is heritable and controlled by a single gene. 115 plants were evaluated for growth cessation over three years in climate-controlled greenhouses and in a randomized field trial. Also the mapping population individuals were genotyped with public SSR probes.
