In August 2005, in the headwaters of the Volga River upstream of Tver, 27 diatom samples (18 from the Volga and 9 from selected tributaries) were collected. This dataset, from the Upper Volga Expedition 2005, provides a first comprehensive checklist of benthic diatoms for the Volga headwaters. We provide metadata (sampling date, coordinates) and original counts as well as relative abundances.
