The mRNA was assembled by joining the inferred exons 1 through 5 of the equine genomic sequence. Exons 2 - 5 were previously contained in the EquCab 2 reference genome assembly. Exon 1 is located in a gap region of the EquCab 2 assembly. The genomic sequence was obtained by de novo sequencing of a PCR product spanning this gap. All splice junctions are supported by RNA-seq data from equine peripheral blood mononuclear cells and by homology to the orthologous human HMGA2 transcript, isoform 1.
