Multidrug-resistant Enterococcus faecalis carrying both lsa(E) and optrA isolated from shared bicycle in China

By isolating enterococci from the shared bicycle in Wangjiang campus of Sichuan University, Chengdu, China, most strains showed multiple resistance to antibiotics. Among them, we found a strain of Enterococcus faecalis Efs33, which has both optrA, oxazolidinones and phenicol resistant gene and lsa (E), pleuromutilins, lincosamides, and streptogramin A (PLSA) resistance gene. As far as we know, this is the first time that both optrA and lsa(E) genes have been found in Enterococcus faecalis at once. Our study provides first-hand information for molecular epidemiological investigation of enterococci and provides theoretical basis for clinical treatment in the future.
