This study examines the effects of a WeChat-based telecollaboration involving Chinese EFL students and Irish college students, aiming to determine the feasibility of using telecollaboration to enhance Chinese EFL students’intercultural competence. A mixed-methods research design was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data were collected using an adapted questionnaire, which was analyzed through paired-sample t-tests to measure changes in intercultural competence. Additionally, participants’satisfaction with the telecollaborative project was evaluated using another adapted questionnaire, analyzed descriptively. Qualitative data from reflective journals and semi-structured interviews underwent thematic analysis, enriching the quantitative findings through triangulation. Results indicated significant improvements in the intercultural competence of Chinese EFL students, alongside a high level of satisfaction with the telecollaborative experience. This study contributes to the limited literature on telecollaboration’s role in fostering intercultural competence in the Chinese context and offers practical insights for EFL educators seeking to enhance their students’intercultural competence.
