Primary Aldosteronism: New Strategies for Diagnosis and Management

This thesis addresses the challenges of diagnosing and treating primary aldosteronism, a leading cause of high blood pressure. Treatment depends on whether one or both adrenal glands are affected – a distinction that currently requires an invasive procedure. This procedure is difficult to access, especially for regional and Indigenous communities. My research validates non-invasive tools, including clinical algorithms and a new body scan, to replace this invasive procedure. It also explores how different medications block the harmful effects of this condition. These findings offer a more equitable and accessible approach to managing primary aldosteronism and improving heart health for all patients.
