This study was done to evaluate changes in bacterial diversity from beach sand impacted by tides, which could then be used to interpret long-term data collected seasonally and annually. The study was conducted on Dauphin Island, Alabama, and the beach was oiled during the 2010 Deepwater Horizon spill but the sand was not remediated by sand-washing. Samples were collected from the surface of four stations along the beach slope, from subtidal sand, to the swash zone, and then two locations before the berm. Stations were 3 m apart.
