资源简介:
This study used an experimental restoration approach to evaluate the influence of eco-evolutionary processes on eastern oyster (Crassostrea virginica) reef restoration. Juvenile oysters from four geographically distinct hatcheries were used to build restored oyster reefs of mixed-source composition in a single New England estuary. Genetic analysis identified four hatchery source-associated genetic clusters, which shifted in frequency on restored reefs over time, consistent with differential mortality among oyster sources. Source identity also explained variation in oyster traits such as parasite infection patterns and shell size. This study highlights that evolutionary processes can shape restoration outcomes on rapid time scales and, concurrently, that restoration can serve as a valuable platform for investigating eco-evolutionary processes.
