黄埔军校创办于1924年，当年，孙中山先生在中国共产党和苏联的帮助下，在广州黄埔长洲岛创办了陆军军官学校，故通称黄埔军校。 黄埔军校从建立之初，到1949年全国解放，共办23期1949年底，黄埔军校迁往台湾，并续办24期，到2004年，已办至七十三期。 黄埔军校自开办以来，多次易名，校址也换了几个地方。同时，黄埔军校在历史上又办过许多分校和各种短期培训。据初步统计，黄埔军校在1949年底之前，其毕业生（包括各个分校和训练班）在内，共计23万余人。 《黄埔军校人名录》数据库主要依据该校历年印制的“同学录”编制而成。收录范围主要是解放以前二十三期本校学员的信息，共计7万7千余个条目。黄埔军校各分校和训练班的毕业生信息，以及迁台后的信息，目前尚未编入。 《黄埔军校人名录》数据库包括了历届毕业生的信息、历届教职员的信息和黄埔军校发展史的信息。

The Whampoa Military Academy was founded in 1924. In that year, with the assistance of the Communist Party of China and the Soviet Union, Dr. Sun Yat-sen established the Army Officer School on Changzhou Island in Huangpu, Guangzhou, which is commonly known as the Whampoa Military Academy. From its establishment until the liberation of the entire country in 1949, the Whampoa Military Academy had offered a total of 23 training phases. By the end of 1949, the academy was relocated to Taiwan and continued its training programs, launching its 24th phase. By 2004, it had run up to its 73rd training phase. Since its founding, the Whampoa Military Academy has undergone multiple name changes and relocations to several different campuses. According to preliminary statistics, by the end of 1949, the total number of graduates (including those from various branch schools and training classes) exceeded 230,000. The "Whampoa Military Academy Personnel Directory" database is primarily compiled based on the annual "alumni directories" printed by the academy over the years. Its collection scope mainly covers the information of students from the first to the 23rd phases before the liberation, totaling more than 77,000 entries. Information on graduates from the academy's branch schools and training classes, as well as the information related to the period after the relocation to Taiwan, has not yet been included in the database. The "Whampoa Military Academy Personnel Directory" database includes information on graduates of each phase, information on teaching and administrative staff of each phase, and information on the development history of the Whampoa Military Academy.
