Eastern_Mountain_Gorilla_

Eastern gorillas (Gorilla beringei) have been the main focus of primatologists' field studies of gorillas in their natural environemnts, but, in contrast to Western Gorillas, have been little studied genetically, largely because of the lack of samples. We have received samples of the two subspecies of Eastern Gorilla, Mountain Gorillas and Eastern Lowland Gorillas, from the Mountain Gorilla Vetinary Project. Here, we will sequence the genomes of three Mountain Gorillas. Mountain Gorillas are critically endangered, numbering only a few hundred. Our study will provide insights into their genetic history, and a genomic resource that can inform their conservation.
