The project focuses on understanding potential microbial-mineral interactions on Mars as a foundation for future exploratory missions. Central to this research is Rhinocladiella similis, a black fungus that shows promise in astrobiological studies. Cultivated under conditions that simulate Martian soil using the Mars Global Simulant (MGS-1), the study investigates the fungus's survival and its possible metabolic pathways in such environments. A comprehensive genetic analysis of Rhinocladiella similis was conducted, along with the genomic annotation of metabolic pathways and their relationship with metabolites.
