Massive and extended hot gaseous halos surrounding ordinary L* spirals arepredicted by numerical simulations and recently detected through thermalSunyaev-Zeldovich (tSZ) measurements of spirals within 10 Mpc. The tSZ signalextends to about $R_{200}$ and accounts for about 1/3-1/2 of all baryonsprovided one adopt a temperature. By directly measuring the hot gas temperaturethe mass determination is greatly improved. Here we propose X-ray observationsof six nearby 2L* galaxies (10-30 Mpc) that are resolved in Planck tSZ maps.From individual and stacked X-ray observations we will measure the temperaturespatial distribution and metallicity for the inner halo region. When combinedwith the tSZ data this will lead to our best understanding of hot baryons around such galaxies. [truncated! Please see actual data for full text]
